Education and Fun at CNY Doula Connection Events
Cny Doula Connection is going back to the basics, Birth Basics. Our group has restructured out meetings to bring the basics of pregnancy, labor and delivery to all expecting parents. Our meetings will provide information to educate parents on what to expect during this time and how we, as doulas, can help further educate, nurture and support your birth wishes.

December 23rd- Childbirth Education Class
Class will be held in Baldwinsville, NY. 9am-3pm. Registration is required.
January 8th- Planning for Your Postpartum
Whether it's your first baby or your third, every postpartum period is unique, come learn how placenta encapsulation and other natural tips can ease this transition. This class is taught by two of our postpartum doulas: Chris Herrera and Sherri Morris who have helped numerous families during this phase. Special guest, Tonja B will also be presenting information on newborn sleep.
February 12th-Birth Story Sharing
Join us for an in-depth discussion on maternal mental health with licensed master social worker, Stephanie Straub. We will be addressing specific issues such as anxiety and depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as common myths and misperceptions surrounding motherhood and mental wellness.
March 12th-Breastfeeding Preparation
Although breastfeeding is natural, for many there’s a learning curve. This event will give you a foundation of knowledge and skill for your breastfeeding experience. Participants will learn how to overcome breastfeeding challenges, problem solve and how to establish a successful breastfeeding relationship right from the start.
April 9th-Hospital vs. Homebirth: Statistics and Myths Exposed
Do you believe that a hospital is the safest place to give birth to a baby? Do you believe that homebirth is just for hippies?
We will expose the recent statistics on both hospital and homebirths, discuss common myths around homebirth, and help you sift through the misinformation. At the end of the day, birth is a very personal event and only you can decide where you want to give birth.
May 14th- Doula Speed Dating
Interested in hiring a doula but not sure where to start? Come to our doula speed-dating event to share 15 minutes with each of our doulas to see who you and your partner connect with most. We will answer questions about childbirth education classes, placenta encapsulation, and our postpartum doula services. Light snacks will be served.
June 11th-Options for Childbirth
This class addresses the needs and interests of women who wish to have an intimate, fully involved birth experience. This class places emphasis on natural delivery and making choices in response to the birth process. Labor support techniques and comfort measures from home birth and other cultures are emphasized.
July 9th-Childbirth Integrated Methods
This class provides an overview of integrating care such as prenatal yoga, chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage and more to assist your health and well being for pregnancy and birth. Referral list of pregnancy-friendly providers will be included.
August 13th-Compassionate Cesarean
For those families who need a cesarean, they too deserve to birth surrounded by compassion, joy and gentleness. Yes, it’s major surgery, but also a momentous and miraculous event in the life of a family.
A new approach to cesarean delivery is the compassionate cesarean, or family-centered delivery. In this approach, there is a reduced emphasis on traditional surgical rituals and an increased emphasis on facilitating the early interaction of the mother and family with their baby.
We will discuss reasons for cesareans, how to create a family-centered cesarean birth and recovery from a cesarean.
September 10th-Tips for Positioning Your Baby for Birth
Expectant parents may find it helpful to know your baby's position before labor starts so you can take proactive steps towards an easier birth. Paying attention to baby’s kicks and wiggles in utero to identify baby’s position in the final months of pregnancy Once the position and presentation of your baby is discovered, if results are less optimal for labor and delivery, parents gain the knowledge and tools they need to rotate and reposition baby for an easier labor and delivery. We will discuss tips on how to identify your baby’s exact position and how to help babies assume an ideal position for birth.
