WHO Benefits from Binding? Both vaginal birth and cesarean birthing parents can benefit from postpartum belly binding. Wearing a postpartum wrap may ensure that your incision heals properly and may be especially helpful for those who have delivered by cesarean. In fact, one study concluded that postpartum binders reduced bleeding, pain and discomfort as compared to those who had a cesarean and did not use any type of belly binding.

When to wrap?If you delivered vaginally, you can start wrapping within the first week postpartum. If you have had a cesarean, we first recommend a loose band be worn, then schedule to be wrapped around four to six weeks postpartum with your doctor’s approval.
It is recommended to continue to wrap each day, for about six to 12 hours, up to about six weeks. |
