Postpartum Care in Central NY
"Parenting is the easiest thing in the world to have an opinion about, but the hardest thing in the world to do."
- Matt Walsh
Adding a new member to your family is, well, new! From your first newborn to adding to your growing family, our first priority is to insure that the new mother is rested and relaxed, and to assist her with nurturing her baby. Doula Connection postpartum doulas are trained and experienced with preemies, multiples, adoption, and special needs babies so your postpartum doula will understand the specific needs of each baby’s development stage that will help parents feel more confident and competent while adjusting into their new roles.
Here are more examples of all the different kind of support your Doula Connection postpartum doula can provide but is not limited to:
Daytime packages
Those first 6 weeks after baby enters the world can be overwhelming and exhausting. These packages help you welcome your newborn(s) home with a little extra support during the early days with your baby. A typical daytime shift may look like this:
- Upon arrival, a brief overview of your day and time to have any questions answered (referrals given if needed)
- Assistance with feeding, infant care, soothing techniques and sleep support for baby
- Caring for the birthing parent as they recover
- Light housework may be done (baby laundry, washing and prepping bottles, dishes, meal prep)
- A time of self care for parents while baby and older siblings are cared for (take a hot shower, nap, eating a hot meal, exercising)
- Wrapping up the shift includes a final diaper change, feeding, and washing of any bottles used

Overnight Packages
Getting enough sleep can be a key factor to avoiding postpartum depression. Parenting doesn't stop at nighttime, but having a postpartum doula, previously referred to as baby nurses or night nannies, may allow your family to ease into it. This allows you to get some extra shut-eye and have the peace of mind your baby's needs are met. A typical overnight my look like this:
- Upon arrival, a brief overview of your day and time to get any questions answered (referrals given if needed)
- Light undisruptive housework may be done (baby laundry, washing and prepping bottles)
- Breastfeeding clients: baby will be brought to you to nurse, then I will burp, soothe, and settle your baby
- Bottle-feeding babies will be completely taken care of throughout the night
- Or try a combination of breast and bottle!
- Wrapping up the night includes a final diaper change, feeding, and washing of any bottles used (time permitted)
10pm-7am or 9pm-6am (depending on doula's availability)
